Sailor assigned to CENTCOM dies in non-combat incident

A U.S. Central Command sailor died this week, the Navy said Friday.
Reserve Chief Hospital Corpsman Select Daniel McCracken died May 6 while deployed in a “non-combat-related incident,” the service said in a statement. A Navy spokesman did not provide further details about the circumstances of McCracken’s death when contacted by USNI News.

“The cause of death is still under investigation. Grief counseling services and support are available through the chain of command and command chaplains,” the statement said. “Our thoughts and condolences go out to the affected family, friends and shipmates. We care about our sailors – and their families – and continue to do everything we can to support them.”

McCracken, a Pennsylvania native, joined the Navy in 1998, according to his service biography. He was promoted to Chief Hospital Corpsman in September 2022. Most recently, he was assigned to a special warfare unit on the East Coast.

This is the second death of a sailor in U.S. Central Command in two months. Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class Oriola Michael Aregbesola, assigned to USS mason (DDG-87), died in March.
