According to Robeson County deputies, two men were arrested following a three-vehicle pursuit in the county

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WBTW) – A vehicle pursuit that crossed three counties has led to the arrest of two Lumberton men, Lumberton police said.

Dorean D. Smith, 30, was arrested and charged with two counts of conspiracy, two counts of trafficking opium/heroin, two counts of trafficking cocaine, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and maintaining a vehicle a drug offense, fleeing in a motor vehicle to avoid apprehension, possession of drug paraphernalia, aiding and abetting a felony and operating a vehicle without a seatbelt.


Smith was booked into the Robeson County Detention Center on $525,000 bond.

​Isaiah D. Jones, 24, of Lumberton was arrested and charged with conspiracy, conspiracy to traffic in opium/heroin, trafficking in opium/heroin, possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing and evading arrest with a motor vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was also booked into the Robeson County Detention Center on $250,000 bail.

On Thursday, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to stop a 1980 Chevrolet truck on southbound I-95 near the 32 mile marker for a traffic violation and for failing to operate the vehicle due to flashing lights and siren wanted to stop, officials said.

The vehicle pursuit led through Lumberton and into Bladen County. The pursuit of the vehicle continued throughout Bladen County and extended into Cumberland County, deputies said.

During the pursuit in Cumberland County, the suspect exited his truck and got into a 2022 Dodge Challenger that was waiting for the suspect, officials said.

The vehicle pursuit continued back into Robeson County and came to a stop on Indian Heritage Rd. in Lumberton after failing to stop at an intersection and entering a field, officials said.

The suspects got out of the vehicle and tried to escape. Both suspects were taken into custody after a brief search by law enforcement and air support from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Division.

​During the investigation, a quantity of cocaine, fentanyl, firearms, marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located and seized, officials said.

The Lumberton Police Department, Bladen County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives assisted.
