Muscatine police are investigating an incident near Franklin Elementary School on Friday

Muscatine police believe a report of shots fired in the area of ​​Franklin Elementary School Friday morning was fireworks-related, a news release said.

Muscatine police and the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday to reports of a possible shooting at Franklin Elementary School.

According to the release, around 10 a.m. during morning recess, staff and students at Franklin Elementary School reported hearing what they thought were “gunshots” in the Franklin neighborhood. All students and staff were brought into the building and Muscatine police were immediately notified.

Within minutes, Muscatine police and Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office personnel were on scene and began patrolling the neighborhood and checking in with Franklin staff.

As of Friday afternoon, police believe the incident involved fireworks being set off in the neighborhood and will continue to investigate.

In the press release, the school district thanked Franklin Elementary School staff for taking steps to safely bring their students into their school building. The county is also grateful for the immediate response and continued cooperation with the Muscatine Police Department and the Muscatine County Sheriff’s Office.

Police are investigating a shooting outside rapper Drake’s Toronto mansion that left a security guard seriously injured. Authorities did not confirm whether Drake was home at the time of the shooting but said his team was cooperating.
