UPDATE: Police are responding to the incident at Barrington High School

BARRINGTON, Rhode Island (WLNE) – Police responded to Barrington High School this morning for an incident at a sports field next to the school.

Authorities said the incident was handled safely and a lockdown and shelter-in-place order was issued out of an abundance of caution.

Officials said it was an isolated incident and there was no danger to the public, students, faculty or staff.

Police will continue to have a presence at schools and an early dismissal from high schools has been ordered.
