Former Gaither High School teacher arrested for sex acts against student, deputies say

A 46-year-old former Gaither High School art teacher was arrested Thursday after investigators determined he sexually assaulted a student at the school last year, officials said.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Brian Singleton committed sexual acts against a teenage student in Gaither between September and December. The incidents occurred at school, officials said.

Officers obtained a warrant for Singleton’s arrest and he turned himself in to the Orient Road Jail on Thursday. Singleton was charged with two counts of sexual battery as a person of authority over a female student and one count of solicitation of sexual activity with a child as an authority figure over a female student.

Records show Singleton was being held without bail Friday.

His arrest affidavit was not immediately available.

According to the sheriff’s office, Singleton was hired by the Hillsborough County School District as a full-time art teacher in 2017 and was placed on administrative leave in December. He resigned in March.
