“Not Dead Yet” was canceled after two seasons on ABC

After two seasons, ABC has canceled the comedy series directed and executive produced by Gina Rodriguez Not dead yet.

Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, Not dead yet It centers on newly single Nell Stevens (Rodriguez), a self-proclaimed disaster working to resume the life and career she left behind ten years ago. A once-successful journalist, Nell put her career on hold to help her fiancé start his restaurant. After their breakup, she takes the only job she can – writing obituaries – which at first seems like a step backwards, but ultimately could be exactly what she needs to move forward.

The film also stars Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, Jesse Garcia and Brad Garrett.

When the show premiered in early 2023, it was ABC’s most-watched comedy debut in more than four years. However, the ratings did not hold up in the second season. Deadline TV editor-in-chief Nellie Andreeva wrote of the show last month: “The single camera Not dead yet lies heavily on the bladder. Ratings were low, making for some bleak prospects, although the series starring Gina Rodriguez reportedly has internal fans and could potentially find a spot in the next season due to ABC’s scheduling needs.”

ABC comedies that will continue include: Abbott Elementary School And The Conners, with the latter ending after a shorter six-episode Season 7.

This is the second ABC show with a Latina lead that will not return for a new season following the cancellation of the Jaina Lee Ortiz lead Ward 19. However, the channel renewed the series directed by Ramon Rodriguez Will Trent for a third season. In addition to NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez by George Lopez, Mayan Lopez and Debby Wolfe – which was renewed for a third season this week –Will Trent is only the second Latino-led project on network television.
