Filming for the sequel to the “Walking Dead” series brings zombies to Worcester

The Massachusetts city known as the “Heart of the Commonwealth” was transformed into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan on Monday as crews filmed the second season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The production closed several streets in Worcester. The sets included abandoned storefronts, cars covered in dust, and a whole cast of actors portraying zombies. “I saw a zombie. I did,” said Akosua Agyepong of Worcester. “I have one on video.” “It was absolutely crazy,” said Aleksa Thomas of Worcester. For Monday’s filming, Joffrey Smith had his financial business transformed into a dusty, abandoned suit shop. “It’s exciting to see a major production in action,” Smith said. “They hired a lot of locals, which helped boost the local economy.” The first season of “Dead City,” the sequel to the hit AMC series TV series “The Walking Dead”, premiered in June 2023 and stars Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan from the original series. Filming for “The Walking Dead: Dead City” in Worcester is expected to continue for several more days. Union Station will be closed Wednesday for filming.
