Cause of death of Atlanta mother found dead in car

His death came two years after his 13-year-old son, Jamiren Crosby, and his brother were both shot and killed within months of each other in 2022.

ATLANTA — The cause of death of an Atlanta mother whose body was found inside a car more than a week ago has been released.

Chanell Crosby, 35, was found dead in the back of a vehicle around 2 p.m. July 19 in the area of ​​the West End MARTA station, police said. Her body was found a day after her family filed a missing person report with Atlanta police on July 18. Her family said she was last seen on July 14.

His death came two years after his 13-year-old son, Jamiren Crosby, and his brother were both shot and killed within months of each other in 2022.

The autopsy report on Chanell’s death was released Tuesday to 11Alive. The cause of death was revealed to be a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide, according to the Fulton County Medical Examiner.

The results also showed that Chanell was found decomposed in the back seat of a locked car and that her body was under “numerous objects,” such as blankets and floor mats, the medical examiner’s office said. No weapons were found inside the car.

Background to the Death of Chanell’s Son and Brother

Chanell’s death comes just under two years after her son, 13-year-old Jamiren Crosby, was found behind a townhouse on Parkway Trail in Lithonia on Sept. 19, 2022. His death was ruled a homicide, and nearly two years later, no arrests have yet been made in his case.

The tragic and heartbreaking loss of her son Jamiren wasn’t the first devastating death in her family that year. On April 20, 2022, Chanell’s brother, Darrio “Polo” Giles, was found shot to death in the Seven Court Apartments on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.

Polo’s family told 11Alive at the time that he had just won about $4,000 on a progressive slot machine and believed the person who killed him was after the money. They said the morning he was found, the money was also gone.

Atlanta police later said their preliminary investigation showed his death was the result of an attempted robbery.
