Israel attacks Beirut and targets Hezbollah commander after rocket attack

WASHINGTON – The Israel Defense Forces said Tuesday they carried out an airstrike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, targeting a senior Hezbollah commander responsible for a rocket attack over the weekend that killed 12 children and teenagers in the Golan Heights.

The fate of the Hezbollah commander was not immediately clear.

Reuters reported, citing a witness’ account, that a loud explosion was heard and a cloud of smoke rose over the southern suburbs, a stronghold of Lebanon’s Hezbollah.
