Sony TV acquires rights to Mira Jacobs novel “We Killed Anji Alexander”

EXCLUSIVE: In a bidding war, Sony Pictures Television has acquired the rights to Mira Jacobs’ latest novel. We killed Anji Alexander for development as a prestige series, which we hear is a seven-figure pre-purchase deal. The novel is set to be published by Ecco Press in 2026.

We killed Anji Alexander is a kaleidoscopic mystery that explores the murder of a white-looking Indian actress from every observer’s perspective, while exploring race, feminism, addiction and celebrity.

Jacob’s graphic memoirs Good conversations: memories in conversations was nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award, longlisted for the PEN Open Book Award, named a Notable Book by the New York Times, and Time, Esquire, Publisher’s Weekly, And Library JournalA television series is currently being developed. Her novel The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing was selected by Barnes & Noble Discover New Writers, was shortlisted for the Tata First Literature Award in India, was longlisted for the Brooklyn Literary Eagles Prize, and was named one of the best books of 2014 by Kirkus Reviews, the Boston GlobeGoodreads, Bustle and The Millions.
