There wasn’t much that could be done against the rapist Andre Taillefer.

According to notes from a psychiatrist and Royal Ottawa Hospital staff in the summer of 2011, he had an evil streak and believed in his twisted heart that he was a tough guy with prison yard martial arts skills. He was born with a quick temper and had a strange belief that he was a womanizer.

As long as his victims were the older women he raped or terrorized in his hometown of Alexandria, Ontario, east of Ottawa, everything was fine.

But for Taillefer, the clock was ticking. On July 17, midnight struck in Lindsay’s super-prison. And in the end, he probably got what he deserved, although God reserves the right of first refusal in that decision.

Kawartha Lakes police said guards found the old rapist seriously injured in his jail cell. He was later flown by helicopter to Kingston General Hospital.

Charges have been filed against two other inmates. Jason Larocque, 34, of Oshawa and Hunter Owen, 28, of Newmarket, have been charged with first-degree murder. The accused murderers are underage tenants.

What preceded the murder is not known. None of the charges could be proven in court.

Taillefer was 58 and will not live to see the end of his life. He leaves behind a long and varied criminal record that ranges from the petty to the heartbreakingly violent.

He always seems to be in problem,“ Neighbor Peter Pidgeon told the Ottawa Sun in 2000. “This guy was always on drugs and that must have done something to his head.

— In 2011, Taillefer was sentenced to another 21 months in prison for a similar incident. An elderly woman came home to find him sitting naked on her bed and asking for sex.

A shrink once stated that he was at “very high risk” of becoming violent again and probably also sexually delinquent.

Long prison stays did not help the drunkard. During the eight years he spent in the now-closed Victorian hellhole known as Kingston Penitentiary, he refused treatment and struggled to cope with his violent behavior.

Even prison bars did not stop Taillefer when the court found in 2015 that he had harassed an elderly lady from prison with a flood of lurid letters – 104 in total.

In 2016, the public prosecutor wanted to declare him a dangerous offender. The judge decided instead to classify him as a long-term offender – and banish him from his hometown of Alexandria.

Even the judge in his case noted that Taillefer had no real plan for release, but oddly enough, he had a supportive girlfriend. Her presence in his life did not stop him from sexually approaching older women.

As for Taillefer’s job, he said he saw no need for it.

Taillefer is now officially retired.

But there is no gold watch and no alumni day. There is only pitch-black oblivion.

Our civilized self believes that his alleged murder was a bad thing. Our human self replies, “Nah.”

The world is a better place without Taillefer.
