Vandals spread hate speech @ El Marino – Minors arrested and released – Culver City Crossroads

The El Marino Language School was the victim of two incidents of vandalism last month, but the suspects were arrested and the district is taking preventative measures.

A statement from Culver City Unified School Superintendent Dr. Brian Lucas said, “The suspects – Los Angeles residents and not CCUSD students – smeared racist and homophobic slurs on some of the walls. Using video footage from our security system, CCUSD Security and CCPD were able to identify the suspects… Since it was summer, no students were exposed to this incident.”

According to a Culver City Police report, “a broken classroom window and hate speech graffiti were discovered in multiple locations on campus.”

The CCPD stated, “On Monday, July 29, 2024, both suspects were arrested and released to their parents. Neither suspect is a student in the Culver City Unified School District.”

Dr. Lucas noted, “Since last spring, the district has been planning to install more advanced camera technology for our perimeter protection. … Installation of these cameras, which will also enable motion alerts, is scheduled for the week of July 29.”

To ensure greater security, the CCPD has deployed additional patrols in the area.
