Man arrested for sexually abusing an elderly patient in a nursing home

A caregiver working at a Phoenix senior living home faces charges after being accused of sexually abusing an elderly patient suffering from dementia.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a 911 call at Brookdale Senior Living near the corner of 40th Place and Bluefield Avenue.

According to authorities, video footage from a hidden, motion-activated camera set up by the victim’s family showed a male nurse sexually abusing an elderly patient in her room.

The victim’s daughter, who made the 911 call, told authorities that she saw in the footage the suspect being pressed against her mother “with his pants down.”

According to court documents, the facility’s manager then confronted the suspect and found him standing in the hallway outside the room. When asked if he had just been in the room, the suspect told the manager he had “just taken out the trash.”

When a forensic nurse asked the victim to undergo a sexual assault exam, the victim reportedly cried and said, “Don’t make me do that again,” court records say.

The suspect was arrested at the scene, officials said.

Detectives gathered enough evidence to establish probable cause and booked the suspect into a Maricopa County jail and posted $200,000 cash bail, officials said.
