Virginia Beach police investigate fatal bicycle accident


VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) is investigating a fatal accident involving a bicyclist that occurred on General Booth Blvd.

On Saturday at 11:12 p.m., officers responded to a reported bicycle accident in the 900 block of General Booth Blvd. Upon arrival, officers found a vehicle and a bicyclist identified as 34-year-old Christopher Malik of Pennsylvania.

The emergency services immediately assisted Malik, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. The driver of the vehicle remained on site and cooperated with the investigators.

No charges have been filed so far.

  • Lakewood man arrested for bank robbery in Brick Township

    BRICK, NJ — Chief David Forrester of the Brick Township Police Department announced the arrest of Andrew Borbotko, 3, 44, of Lakewood. He is charged with second-degree robbery in connection with a recent bank robbery.

    The arrest took place on Thursday following an incident that occurred at Santander Bank on Monday.

    A warrant was issued for Borbotko’s arrest on Wednesday, and he turned himself in voluntarily on Thursday without complications. His case has since been processed and he is being held in the Ocean County Jail.

    Chief Forrester thanked several law enforcement agencies, including the Brick Township Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Lakewood Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI’s Red Bank Office, for their cooperative efforts in this case.

  • A lottery ticket worth one million dollars from Maryland remains unclaimed

    BALTIMORE, MD — A Maryland Lottery player in Dundalk has yet to claim his $1,045,589 FAST PLAY Extreme Green ticket purchased Wednesday. Meanwhile, significant winnings were being distributed across the state, with nearly $28.5 million paid out in the week ending Friday.

    Four players from Adelphi, Baltimore and Fountain Green each secured prizes valued at $100,000. During this time, the Maryland Lottery confirmed the distribution of 32 tickets valued at $10,000 or more each.

    For winnings over $25,000, winners must visit the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore. Winnings up to $5,000 can be claimed at any of the more than 400 Expanded Cashing Authority Program (XCAP) locations, while tickets valued up to $600 can be claimed at any authorized Maryland Lottery retailer. Detailed claiming instructions can be found on the Maryland Lottery website.

    Highlights of the week of July 22-28 included two $100,000 scratch-off ticket wins on Gold Rush 7s Multiplier tickets sold in Baltimore and Fountain Green. Additional $50,000 in wins were won on tickets sold in Hyattsville, Thurmont and Salisbury.
