Kai Cenat will not be charged in the Union Square incident after paying $55,000

Kai Cenat will pay $55,000 as part of a plea agreement to reduce rioting charges related to the high-profile Union Square incident last year.

According to a report from the Associated Press, the Twitch and YouTube star, who was mentioned just today in The Game’s Rick Ross dissertation “Freeway’s Revenge,” agreed to pay as well as publicly share a new apology, resulting in the Dismissal of the case. It was initially reported that Cenat was facing charges including inciting a riot and promoting an unlawful assembly after the August 2023 gambling raffle descended into chaos in Manhattan.

“I apologize for the disruption and damage to the community, park, vehicles and storefronts in the area,” Cenat said in a new apology posted on Snapchat this week. as seen here. “I recognize that this gathering has had an impact on business owners and their staff as they have been unable to conduct business this afternoon, putting their livelihoods at risk. I apologize to the first responders who had to endure the backlash from this irresponsible promotion and work to restore calm.”

In the same statement, Cenat, who had already apologized for the incident last year, addressed his fan base and said he was sorry “for my followers who came to the promotion and did not respond.”

While Kai is required to pay $55,000 as part of the release agreement, two co-defendants were also required to publicly apologize and pay about $1,000 each.

Complex has reached out to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and a representative for Cenat for comment. This story may be updated.

In an interview with Speedy Morman for Complex last year, Cenat, now 22, reflected on his rise and continued influence in the streaming space. As Kai himself explained, many people still think that streaming is “easy and anyone can do it,” which, in his opinion, is simply not the truth. Rather, it comes from a place of “love,” meaning that in Cenat’s opinion, anyone who tries streaming and doesn’t “fall in love with it” shouldn’t continue.
