Victim locked in empty house and sexually abused by two people at gunpoint: Police

Two people are behind bars after a disturbing investigation led to a long list of charges

Two people have been arrested in connection with a disturbing case of sexual assault in which a victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The investigation began on July 20 at approximately 5:50 p.m. when Sault Police were dispatched to a vacant home in the 900 block of Wellington Street East.

According to police, the victim was walking near the intersection of Allard Street and Chapple Avenue earlier in the day when he was approached by two people, one of whom they knew and the other of whom they did not.

The victim was forced to go with the two, police said.

“Near Bruce Street, the second defendant pushed the victim to the ground and the first defendant assaulted and sexually abused her,” said a Sault Ste. Marie police news release issued today. “The two defendants then drove the victim into a vacant house in the 900 block of Wellington Street East, where they again assaulted and sexually abused her with and without a firearm, burned her and verbally threatened her.”

According to police, the victim was also burned and verbally threatened.

“The victim was able to escape and get help after the two defendants fell asleep,” the press release states. “The victim suffered serious physical injuries and was taken to the hospital.”

Kain Bourck, 35, was arrested at the scene and charged with several offenses, including sexual assault with a prohibited firearm and false imprisonment. Four days later, while still in custody, Bourck was charged with additional offenses, including two counts of sexual assault, overcoming resistance by choking, suffocation or strangulation, and threats.

On the same day, July 24, police arrested the second suspect – 35-year-old Melissa Favaro – near Wellington Street West and John Street. She is accused of:

  • Sexual assault with restricted or prohibited firearms
  • Illegal possession of a firearm
  • Compulsory admission
  • Sexual assault x2
  • Attack with weapon
  • attack
  • Overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Making threats of death or bodily harm

Both suspects remain in custody. Neither charge has been tested in court and both are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
