Khammam: Khammam man rapes 10-year-old neighbour and gets 20 years in prison | News from Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A 22-year-old man, who raped his 10-year-old neighbour in Khammam district in 2022, was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 by Khammam’s first additional district and sessions judge K Uma Devi on Tuesday. The accused was working as a daily wage labourer and the girl was studying in fourth class at the time.

Khammam Commissioner Sunil Dutt congratulated the investigation team and the judicial officers on duty for their conviction in the case.

Police said that on the day of the incident in November 2022, the girl had returned home from school and was playing with her cousin near the accused’s nearby house. Her parents had not returned from work at that time. Taking advantage of this, the accused sent her cousin to his house, took the girl to his house and raped her. Later, he warned her of dire consequences if she told the matter to her parents and sent her home.

Later, her parents returned from work and found the girl ill. When asked, the girl explained how the accused had raped her. Immediately, a case was registered at Raghunadhapalem police station and the accused was arrested. He was also granted bail.

Meanwhile, during the trial, the judge questioned the witnesses, including her cousin and parents. A total of 13 witnesses were questioned during the trial. The judge also examined the medical reports and found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced him.
