Halfmoon man arrested on numerous animal cruelty charges

HALFMOON, NY (NEWS10) – The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 29-year-old Derrick Sud-Nieves of Halfmoon in connection with an animal cruelty investigation. According to police, 35 dogs were found in deplorable living conditions at a home on Brookwood Road during a search conducted in conjunction with the Halfmoon Code Enforcement Department on Thursday.

The sheriff’s office says the animals were confiscated from the home and placed in the care of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The MHHS said the Saratoga County Animal Shelter was able to take in five of the dogs, while the other 30 are still at the Humane Society.


Sud-Nieves was taken into custody and charged with 35 counts of driving over, torturing and injuring animals, and failing to provide adequate food. According to police, additional charges are possible.

After processing, Sud-Nieves was released with an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Halfmoon Town Court at a later date. This investigation is ongoing.
