A homeless man is facing charges after allegedly kicking and threatening a police officer in Rome on Monday.

According to Floyd County Jail records and a Rome Police Department report:

Officers were initially dispatched to 241 Broad Street because a suspicious person was seen in the bushes there.

This person left the store, but then officers discovered 62-year-old Bobby Joe Barber sleeping in a corner near the store door.

The hairdresser had previously been banned from practicing his profession.

When an officer woke him up, Barber began to curse and picked up one of the two bags lying around him, slammed it on a table and spilled a red cup containing an alcoholic beverage.

He then tried to leave, but was caught by the police and handcuffed.

Barber then attempted to kick the officer.

Once in the patrol car, he made a threat and started kicking the window.

Barber is accused of terroristic threats and acts, obstruction of justice, simple assault and public intoxication.
