35-year-old Kentucky paramedic from the Louisville metropolitan area drowns

A 35-year-old paramedic from Kentucky died in a drowning accident on Monday, according to the Anchorage Middletown Fire and Emergency Services Department.

Sergeant Christian Smith drowned while swimming in Barren River Lake, the department said in a Facebook post. He was an emergency medical technician and had worked for the department since 2014.

“The coming days and weeks will be challenging, but it is critical that we stand together as a department,” the department said in its Facebook post.

No further information was provided regarding the incident.

The Anchorage Middletown Fire & EMS Department is the second largest fire and emergency services department in Kentucky, serving eastern Jefferson County and the Louisville metropolitan area, according to its Facebook page.
