Palestinian prisoners raped by Israeli soldiers in Sde Teiman prison

A Palestinian prisoner was reportedly gang raped by Israeli soldiers in the Sde Teiman prison camp in the Negev desert of southern Israel.

Accordingly Israeli Army Radio, Recently, a Palestinian prisoner classified as an “illegal combatant” was arrested in the Gaza Strip and held at the Sde Teiman center on the basis of an arrest warrant.

Israeli public broadcaster CANsaid, citing a security source, that the prisoner had suffered serious injuries to an intimate part of his body, which had left him unable to walk.

The prisoner was taken from Sde Teiman in the Negev desert to a hospital in Beersheba in southern Israel.

In this context, the Israeli military police arrived in Sde Teiman on Monday, July 29, to investigate ten IDF reserve soldiers suspected of mistreating a prisoner.

Nine Israeli soldiers were arrested for “serious mistreatment of a prisoner”; the tenth is expected to be arrested later due to his absence from the base.

The police forces encountered resistance from soldiers, who barricaded themselves and used pepper spray in defense before being taken into custody.

Right-wing Israelis reacted angrily to the arrests and called for solidarity protests across the country. Dozens of people stormed the detention camp.

About 200 right-wing extremist activists stormed the courthouse in Bayt Lid, where the accused soldiers are being held, according to the Israeli Haaretz daily.

Israeli MP Hanoch Milwidsky, a member of the ruling Likud party, defended the rape of Palestinian prisoners, declaring that “everything is legitimate.”

In a video confirmed by several media outlets, Palestinian MP Ahmad Tibi questioned the legality of inserting a stick into a person’s rectum.

“Yes! If he is a Nukhba, anything you can do with him is legitimate,” shouted Milwidsky.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Police Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Knesset member Yitzhak Kroizer criticized the arrest of Israeli soldiers and called on the military police to refrain from further arrests.

Since Israel’s ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip, reports have emerged of severe mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners in the notorious facility.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army is said to have arrested thousands of Palestinians, including women, children and paramedics.

Since the war in the Gaza Strip began, more than 39,360 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and nearly 91,000 injured.
