Platkin wants to revoke restaurant owner’s liquor license due to sexual assault

Attorney General Matt Platkin filed a motion Monday seeking the indefinite suspension of the liquor licenses of four Trenton restaurants owned by Gerald Araya, who has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault.

According to the Trentonian, Mercer County prosecutors last month charged Araya with sexually harassing several former employees and a job applicant. Platkin’s motion, filed with the Department of Liquor Control, argues that the restaurants should not be used for potential further crimes.

“The criminal conduct alleged against the licensee directly affects the restaurants and bars where he has the right to serve alcoholic beverages,” Platkin said in a press release. “Today’s action seeks to revoke those licenses to prevent further harm or harassment at those locations.”

According to the order for reasons, the ABC will hold a meeting on August 21 to hear the application.
