Road rage incident in California ends in shooting with two dead

HIGHLAND, Calif. — Two men involved in a driving rage incident died in a shootout in a bar parking lot, with one of the men shot in front of his young children who were sitting in the back seat of his car, authorities say.

A press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said 38-year-old Jonathan McConnell of Corona, California, and 37-year-old Aaron Harris of Highland were both hospitalized following Saturday’s shooting but died from their injuries.

According to the sheriff’s department, the incident began on the 210 Freeway. McConnell was riding a motorcycle and driving between lanes when he collided with a sedan driven by Harris. Harris’ two children, ages 5 and 2, were also in the vehicle.

After the collision, McConnell continued driving, but was pursued by Harris and exited the highway into the parking lot of a bar called Joy’s Lounge. When McConnell arrived there, he encountered several people he knew.

Harris reportedly pulled into the parking lot and began shouting threats at McConnell as he approached the vehicle. The sheriff’s office says Harris opened fire on McConnell, who returned fire.

Another adult man was wounded in the hand in the shooting. Harris’ children were not injured.
