One person seriously injured after rollover crash in Genesee County

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Basom man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday in Genesee County, Genesee County Sergeant Andrew Hale said.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the 39-year-old crash victim was driving a Jeep northbound on Highway 63 toward Medina out of the Alabama city when he “drove through” construction signs and left the east shoulder of the roadway, Hale said.

Authorities said the vehicle struck a road closure sign, rolled three times and the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected 30 feet from the Jeep.

“Had he been wearing a seat belt, he likely would have been pinned and crushed by the rolling of the Jeep. So in this case, it appears that being ejected from the vehicle is what ultimately saved him,” he said.

Hale said the driver was conscious and alert but suffered serious injuries. The driver was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight.

At this time, they do not suspect alcohol was involved and are still testing for drugs.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
