Man dead, child injured in Southwest Philadelphia shooting: reports

PHILADELPHIA – A man was killed and a child was injured in a shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Thursday evening, according to reports.

According to Fox 29, the shooting occurred at 61st and Passyunk Avenue around 8:30 p.m.

Police found one vehicle on 28th Street on one side of the Schuylkill River and the other near 61st Street on the other side of the river, NBC10 reports.

On 28th Street, police found a 23-year-old man in the driver’s seat of a Chevy Malibu with gunshot wounds to the head and shoulder. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Action News reports that a 9-year-old girl was seen running from the vehicle and was taken to a police station building with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to the newspaper, police found a 46-year-old man on 61st Street with a gunshot wound to the back.

More than two dozen shots were reportedly fired in total, and it is unclear what led to the shooting and who started shooting during the incident.
