One dead in two-vehicle crash near Edinburgh

HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — One person is dead and another was taken to a hospital after a two-vehicle crash near Edinburg.

At 5:43 p.m., authorities responded to a crash on Depot Road, north of Mile 17 ½ Road and west of Edinburg, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.


A preliminary investigation revealed that a maroon Ford F-150 was traveling north on Depot Road north of Mile 17 ½ Road and a red Toyota FJ Cruiser was traveling south.

According to the press release, the driver of the Ford F-150 entered the southbound lane of Depot Road and collided with the Toyota.

The Ford was on fire and the driver was trapped inside.

DPS officials said the driver of the Toyota was taken to Doctor’s Hospital in Renaissance with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford, identified as 79-year-old Jose Luis Loredo of McAllen, was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
