Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for several counties in the Atlanta metro area

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Several counties in the Atlanta metro area are under a severe thunderstorm warning.

First day of weather alert: Severe storms move into metro Atlanta

Monday is a first-alert weather day. A complex of thunderstorms is moving through northern Georgia Monday night. The storms will move quickly. The risk of heavy rain and thunderstorms persists through 9 p.m. in metro Atlanta. A few thunderstorms will produce gusty winds.

LATEST UPDATES:

8:50 p.m. | Clayton, Coweta and Fayette counties, as well as Henry, Meriwether, Pike and Spalding counties, are under severe thunderstorm warnings until 9:30 p.m.

8:40 p.m. | Dozens of power outages were reported in metro Atlanta and northern Georgia, according to the Map of power outages in Georgia. In Fulton County, there are 40 power outages reported. In DeKalb, there are 118 power outages. In Clayton County, there are 470 outages.

8:35 p.m. | Several counties are under severe thunderstorm warnings until 9 p.m. These counties are: Carroll, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Fulton and Heard.
