Teenager dies in Rockaway, presumably in subway surfing incident

BEIRUT — Picturesque and spooky place for fishing: A fisherman casts his fishing line into the Mediterranean Sea from a rocky area along Beirut’s coast on a scorching hot day in Beirut, Lebanon, on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He is likely using a traditional fishing method that involves the use of rods, scoop (long net), nets and cages. The main Lebanese fishing ports, where experienced fishermen know the depths, ocean currents and species, are Arida, Tripoli, Batroun, Jbeil, Jounieh, Dora, Ouzaï, Saida and Tyr.

The most popular fish species caught along the Lebanese coast include bream, red mullet, herring, malifa fish, sardines, calamari, shrimp and tuna.

When fishing in northern Israel (which borders Lebanon to the south), one can find branzino (also called John Dory), as well as amnon, locus and grouper. Before the Israel-Hamas war and previous conflicts, the Gaza Strip was a well-known fishing area. Photo: Hassan Ammar/AP
