Former Tennessee Titans edge rusher suspended for six games

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport announced today that Denico Autry, former Tennessee Titans player and current Houston Texans edge rusher, violated the NFL’s doping policy and will be suspended for the first six games of the season.

“I immediately investigated the matter and determined that a pharmacy where my doctors had submitted a prescription for another medication had intentionally, recklessly or negligently included a controlled substance. I want to make it clear that at no time did I know or even suspect that this medication contained a controlled substance,” Autry wrote in his statement.

Autry’s three seasons with the Titans were three of his best, totaling 108 tackles, 30 for losses, 28.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.

Titans fans were saddened to see that those numbers earned the 34-year-old a two-year, $20 million contract with league rivals the Houston Texans.

“During my 10-year NFL career, I have never used any performance-enhancing drugs. During that time, I have been subjected to countless tests, none of which have ever returned a positive result. So I was stunned this offseason to learn that one of my tests returned a positive result,” Autry said.

There is not much left for Autry to do other than accept the consequences (which he has already done), continue training and be ready for his return, which will not take place until week 7 at the earliest.

However, it is clear to Texans fans that either Jerry Hughes or Derek Barnett can take over the starting position for six weeks. However, if Autry returns and joins Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr., the NFL should be concerned.

The Titans will face the Texans for the first time this season on November 24 in Houston and will try to prevent Autry from getting revenge.
