One dead and four injured in suspected drunk driving crash on Freeway 91 – Press Enterprise

While two cars were parked on the shoulder of the 91 Freeway in Corona, another car left the roadway and crashed into the back of one of the cars, killing one person and seriously injuring four others, the California Highway Patrol said Monday, July 29.

The fatal accident occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday on the westbound 91 Freeway, west of McKinley Street.

Two broken-down cars, a BMW and a Hyundai, were on the right shoulder of the road while the five occupants were on the right shoulder of the embankment. For unknown reasons, a driver of a Nissan veered to the right and struck the left rear of the BMW. The impact pushed the BMW into the path of the pedestrian, killing one of them, officials said.

The four other pedestrians were hospitalized with serious injuries. Authorities arrested the Nissan driver, a 35-year-old Long Beach man, on suspicion of driving under the influence.
