Spartanburg music teacher arrested and accused of sexually abusing a minor, police say

A Spartanburg, South Carolina, music teacher is suspected of sexual abuse of a minor. Spartanburg police said that on March 20, 2024, officers began investigating John R. Foster Jr., 75, a music teacher at Roper Music on East Main Street in Spartanburg. Police said the victim passed the information on to her father, who then contacted Spartanburg police. According to police, the 13-year-old female victim was a guitar student of Foster’s. The victim began taking guitar lessons at Roper Music approximately three to four years before reporting this information, police said. As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Foster on a charge of sexual abuse of a minor.
