1 man dies in mobile home fire in Wentzville

WENTZVILLE, Missouri – Members of the Wentzville Fire Protection District were back on scene early this morning to extinguish a fire at a mobile home park near Lucille Street that was sparked by Monday afternoon winds.

The firefighters first responded to an emergency call after 00:45. Shortly after arriving at the scene of the fire, they heard an explosion.

“A passerby called 9111 and said they were seeing smoke and flames. That led us to believe someone else was trapped inside. Anytime someone is inside, crews do everything they can to rescue them,” said Chief Steve Mosher of the Wentzville Fire Protection District. “In this case, they tried a variety of ways to fight through the flames and get to the patient. Unfortunately, we did not have the desired outcome and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

One man died in the fire. His name was not released.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. It is believed the fire was caused by an accident resulting from the improper use of smoking materials.

Chief Mosher had an important message for the public

“I want to take this opportunity to encourage anyone in an older home like this to make sure their smoke detectors are working,” Mosher said. “They save lives.”
