Preliminary report reveals new details of deadly July 12 mining accident

WYOMING COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA) – The Miner Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) preliminary report has revealed new details about the deadly July 12 mining accident.

Ashley Cogar, 33, of Erbacon, Webster County, West Virginia, died on July 23 from injuries sustained in the incident. It was the second death at a mining facility in the Mountain State this year.

According to MSHA, a truck driver, Cogar, was seriously injured when he was struck by the bucket of a front-end loader at the Wyco Surface Mine.

According to MSHA, nine miners have been killed and 185 injured in motorized mining equipment accidents this year, the highest number of fatal motorized mining equipment accidents since 2006.
