A bus driver’s behavior sparks an investigation in Avon

Police and school officials are investigating an incident involving concerning behavior by a bus driver in Avon.

The incident was reported Wednesday afternoon when students “were concerned about the ride home and the condition of their bus driver,” Avon Public Schools officials wrote in a letter to the school community.

Some students were so concerned that they contacted Avon police and their families, the letter said, without elaborating on the nature of the driver’s behavior.

“Upon receipt of these reports, the Avon Police Department, district and school administrators, and several parents contacted by their child immediately responded to the scene,” school officials wrote. “Children were removed from the bus and later released to their parents/guardians.”

According to the school authority, no injuries were reported.

The police are investigating the incident. School officials said they would work with police and bus company Specialty Transportation to assist in the investigation and “ensure appropriate action is taken.”

“Rest assured that the safety of our students is our top priority and we take all concerns of our students, families and staff very seriously,” school officials wrote. “We are grateful for the quick response and cooperation of our parents/guardians, Avon Police and our administrative colleagues in dealing with this situation.”

School officials said they wanted to speak to some students on the bus to get more information. Parents requiring further information are also asked to contact the school district.

Spokespeople for the Avon Police Department and Specialty Transportation did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

Christine Sardinskas, assistant principal, shared the letter sent to the school community and said school officials could not comment further, citing the ongoing investigation.
