Two of three children found dead in a Maine home

A woman and her two daughters were found dead in a Mechanic Falls home this weekend, neighbors told Jim Keithley of Maine’s Total Coverage.The Maine Department of Public Safety said state and local police have launched a death investigation after three bodies were found in a Highland Avenue residence around 4 p.m. Saturday.In a message posted to the Regional School Unit 16 Facebook page Sunday afternoon, Superintendent Amy Hediger wrote that the school community has suffered an “unimaginable loss” with the deaths of two students at Elm Street School, a preschool through sixth grade public school in Mechanic Falls. “Our Elm Street School Crisis Team met last night to plan how we can best support our staff and students during this difficult time. We are committed to providing the help and resources needed, and we will share more information as it becomes available,” Hediger wrote in the Facebook post.Neighbors told Keithley that a single mother and her two young daughters, ages 8 and 11, were found dead in the second-floor apartment where they lived on Highland 5th Ave.Police have not released any details about the dead, saying autopsies must be performed first.Authorities had said there was no danger to the public.In her Facebook post, Hediger shared links to the websites of the Center for Grieving Children and the National Alliance of Mental Health. She also shared the phone number for the Maine Crisis Line, which is 1-888-568-1112.Regional School Unit 16 serves more than 1,700 students from Poland, Mechanic Falls and Minot.

In a message posted on the Regional School Unit 16 Facebook page Sunday afternoon, Superintendent Amy Hediger wrote that the school community had suffered an “unimaginable loss” with the deaths of two students at Elm Street School, a preschool through sixth grade public school in Mechanic Falls.

Neighbors told Keithley that a single mother and her two young daughters, ages 8 and 11, were found dead in their second-floor apartment at 5 Highland Ave.

Flowers and stuffed animals were placed on the steps of a home on Highland Avenue in Mechanic Falls, Maine, where three people were found dead on July 27, 2024.

Police have not provided further details on the fatalities, saying autopsies must be completed before they can release details.

The authorities had stated that there was no danger to the population.
