Charges against youths after “shooting” incident in Lynchburg on Saturday

LYNCHBURG, Virginia. – Juveniles charged following a “gunfire” incident in Lynchburg, LPD says.

The incident occurred Saturday when police responded to reports of shots fired in the 900 block of Cabell Street at 7:52 p.m.

We have been informed that witnesses said a group of youths in a grey Jeep were involved in the incident.

We learned that within an hour, the LPD emergency call center received another report that the same group of juveniles had returned to the crime scene.

Witnesses described a juvenile wearing a red hoodie who was seen with a firearm. Officers immediately responded to the new information and upon arrival arrested four people and seized a weapon, the department said.

As a result of the investigation, the following charges were brought against four young people:

  • A 15-year-old boy was arrested and charged with concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a minor

  • A 14-year-old boy was served with two outstanding criminal charges

  • Another 15-year-old boy was charged with providing false identification to authorities

  • A 13-year-old boy was handed over to his parents and charges are pending

The investigation is still ongoing, LPD said.
