East Bridgewater Police Department implements public safety initiatives with the help of JAG grant

For immediate release

EAST BRIDGEWATER — Police Chief Michael Jenkins is pleased to report that the East Bridgewater Police Department is implementing two successful public safety initiatives with the help of Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funds. The department also purchased a hidden surveillance camera with the help of the grant awarded in November.

The goal of the crime reduction initiative is to reduce the number of crimes that impact the quality of life of residents, business owners and visitors to the community.

The East Bridgewater Police Department received a total of $43,200. About $12,000 was allocated to purchase new surveillance camera equipment.

The remaining $31,200 was awarded for two proactive crime reduction initiatives. The first initiative aims to eliminate illegal drug trafficking through proactive patrol measures. The second initiative aims to combat a recent increase in nighttime car break-ins through additional proactive patrols.

“We are deeply grateful for this generous grant that will allow us to take a proactive approach to protecting our community,” said East Bridgewater Police Chief Jenkins. “This funding will enhance our ability to prevent crime, build stronger relationships with the people we serve, and create a safer environment for everyone.”

Nearly $5 million was awarded to 130 police departments across the state to address specific focus areas such as illegal drug use, domestic violence, gun violence, missing persons cases and hate crimes. The grant also funded projects related to technology improvements, investigative tools and protective equipment, school safety and security, and efforts to promote racial equity and support underserved communities.
