Malaysian player Halim can walk again after an acid attack

Malaysian soccer player Faisal Halim has responded well to a third operation and is able to walk after being in critical condition following an acid attack, state news agency Bernama reported on Friday.

There have been a number of attacks on players in Malaysia over the past two weeks. Halim was thrown with acid at a mall on May 5, causing fourth-degree burns that affected his mobility and speech.

The Charity Shield opening match of the season was canceled after Halim’s team, Selangor FC, withdrew due to security concerns following a series of attacks on players.

Halim responded well after undergoing a three-hour skin transplant on Thursday, Selangor Football Association deputy president Shahril Mokhtar told Bernama on Friday.

“I heard this morning that he came into the room and went to the toilet alone. This is a positive development. He wants to go home,” he said.

Halim, 26, will have to undergo further follow-up surgery later and is expected to make a full recovery in time.
