FDA issues warning for 6 brands of ground cinnamon

According to the FDA, six brands of ground cinnamon sold at discount stores such as Family Dollar and Dollar Tree contain levels of lead that are hazardous to health.

NEW YORK — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a health warning for El Servidor ground cinnamon due to possible lead contamination.

The FDA warns consumers against purchasing this product.

Those who already have it should throw it away

The agency urges the retailer to carry out a voluntary recall.

The FDA’s decision was the result of testing by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.

The warning follows an earlier warning on other ground cinnamon products, the recall of which was recommended on March 6.

Young children are at the greatest health risk from lead poisoning, so parents should take special precautions.
