Former MLB pitcher Reyes Moronta died in traffic accident at age 31

The baseball community mourns the loss of an MLB star.

Reyes Morontaa pitcher from the Dominican Republic who played for the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Angels and the Arizona Diamondbacks, died in a traffic accident in his home country on July 28, according to the Los Angeles Times. He was 31 years old.

In addition to his six-year stint in the MLB, Reyes moved to the Mexican League earlier this year, where he played for the León Braves and the Mexico Red Devils. The Mexican League confirmed the former pitcher’s death on July 29.

“We mourn on behalf of his family, friends and former teammates,” said the statement translated from Spanish on X, formerly Twitter. “Rest in peace.”

The Quiniqua Dominican Republic native, who married Ivelka Felin in 2020 – was also remembered by the Major League Baseball Players Association.

“The player community was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Reyes Moronta in a traffic accident on Sunday,” the organization wrote in a statement on July 29. “We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends in his native Dominican Republic and throughout the game.”
