Three Ponchatoula teens arrested for animal cruelty after video goes viral

TANGIPAHOA – The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested three Ponchatoula teenagers on July 27, 2024 after a video of animal cruelty went viral on various social media platforms.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested for animal cruelty. The other two 15-year-old boys were each arrested for animal cruelty, meaning they were involved in the incident but were not directly accused of harming the dog.

TPSO says they learned of a video on social media that allegedly shows a boy injuring a dog during what appears to be a duck hunting trip. In the video, TPSO says it is clear that a second person was filming the act and a third person was also present, but neither attempted to help the dog.

Investigators say the teens were arrested after the animal cruelty incident occurred in the Manchac area in early 2023. After identifying the three Ponchatoula teens involved, they obtained arrest warrants for them. The teens were found at their homes and taken into custody without incident.

The dog in the video was also found and examined for further signs of abuse. Thankfully, the dog is in good health and appears happy.

The names of the juveniles cannot be released due to their minor status. The TPSO is also working with other agencies to see if any additional evidence comes to light during the investigation.
