KEARNEY — A Kearney man has been arrested after punching a man for owning a dog, spitting on a police officer and resisting arrest.

Isaac Whiteface, 19, was charged with assault – causing bodily harm – Class 1 misdemeanor; assault of a public officer with bodily fluid – Class 1 misdemeanor; and resisting arrest, first offense, Class 1 misdemeanor.

Whiteface appeared in Buffalo County Court on July 26 and pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bail was set at 10 percent of $5,000.

A preliminary hearing has been set for August 22 at 1:30 p.m. and a jury trial has been set for October 7 at 9 a.m.

According to court documents, on July 25 at 10:46 p.m., officers from the Kearney Police Department were dispatched to the Buffalo County Fairgrounds for a report of an assault that had occurred.

As other officers were en route, one of the officers on scene reported over the radio that the suspect had spat in his face.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers made contact with Austin Gydesen who had lacerations to his eye and was covered in blood.

Gydesen told officers he tried to stop Isacc Whiteface from taking his pit bull dog, after which Whiteface allegedly punched Gydesen in the face three times.

Sierra Gronewood, who was in possession of the dog, told officers that Whiteface approached them in a confrontational manner, demanding they hand over the dog.

Gronewood said Whiteface snatched the lease and the dog by the neck, Gydesen tried to stop him, which resulted in the alleged assault.

Officers also contacted Breanna Whelan, Whiteface’s sister, who witnessed the assault. It was also confirmed that Whiteface was the one who spat on the officer.

Whiteface reportedly resisted arrest but was transported to the Buffalo County Jail.
