Houston Police: Officers handle multiple calls

Here are excerpts from reports recently generated by the Houston Police Department:

Between July 22 and 28, the Houston Police Department responded to 170 calls for service and initiated 17 traffic stops resulting in 12 citations and 15 warnings.

  • On July 22, officers responded to the 17000 block of Oakhill Road, where they arrested Carlton L. Wake, 46, on a felony warrant issued by Cherokee County, Kansas.
  • On July 22, troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 63 near Indian Creek Trail. During the investigation, it was discovered that a 2000 Ram 3500 was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 63 in the turn lane to make a left turn when it struck the mirrors of a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 63. No injuries were reported.
  • On July 22, an officer followed up on a nuisance violation in the 100 block of First Street and found the violation had not been corrected. Glenn Gilbert, 52, was cited for failure to comply with nuisance abatement measures.
  • On July 23, Kerry Brooks, 36, was cited for driving on a suspended license and failure to produce an insurance identification card.
  • On July 23, Tyler Medine, 30, was arrested during a traffic stop on an active Texas County warrant.
  • On July 24, officers responded to the 300 block of West Chestnut Street for a report of a stolen bicycle. The investigation is ongoing.
  • On July 24, police received a report of a theft of money in the 1400 block of Sam Houston Boulevard. During the investigation, Nyla Gutierrez, 27, was identified as a suspect and cited for theft under $750.
  • On July 24, officers responded to a motor vehicle accident on Mesa Drive. During the investigation, it was discovered that an eastbound 1993 Chevrolet 1500 had left the roadway on the left side and struck a utility pole and fence. The driver left the scene and was subsequently arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident – property damage over $1,000. Formal charges are pending.
  • On July 25, police were dispatched to a traffic accident on U.S. 63 near Walmart. During the investigation, it was discovered that a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado was making a left turn onto U.S. 63 from Walmart and struck a 2017 Ford Explorer traveling southbound on U.S. 63. Mary Langston of Mountain View, Missouri, was cited for failure to yield.
  • On July 25, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle crash in the 900 block of Sam Houston Boulevard. During the investigation, it was discovered that a 2018 Nissan Titan was backing up to park and struck a parked 2011 GMC Terrain. No injuries were reported.
  • On July 25, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of North Grand Avenue for a report of a domestic dispute. During the investigation, it was discovered that Christina Villarreal, 35, and James Leyrer, 40, were both wanted on Texas County warrants. Both suspects were arrested and transported to the Texas County Jail.
  • On July 27, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Sommerfield Avenue for a report of a kidnapping. During the investigation, it was discovered that a 21-year-old man had left with a toddler without permission. Officers located the 21-year-old man and the baby a short time later. The baby was returned to his mother safely. A report will be sent to the Texas County District Attorney for charges.
  • On July 27, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Sam Houston Boulevard for an assault. During the investigation, it was discovered that a 44-year-old man had been assaulted following a verbal altercation on Bryan Street. Joshua Wilson, 43, was arrested and charged with third-degree assault by the Texas County District Attorney.
  • On July 28, Larry Andrews, 55, was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, failure to produce an insurance card and improper vehicle registration.
