12-year-old kidnapped and sexually abused on his way home from the movies, New Jersey officials say

Charges have been filed against a man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on her way home from the movies, prosecutors in New Jersey said.

Keith Ashley-Drake, 52, faces several charges, including “first-degree kidnapping, first-degree aggravated sexual assault (and) second-degree sexual assault,” the Union County District Attorney’s Office said in an April 4 news release.

As the 12-year-old girl was walking home from the movie theater in Irvington on the evening of March 17, a man approached her and persuaded her to get into his car, prosecutors said. The man then drove her to his home in Fanwood, where she was sexually assaulted the next day, the news release said.

Prosecutors said an investigation led to Ashley-Drake being identified as a suspect. He was arrested on March 31.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the investigation is still ongoing.

Irvington is located about 5 miles southwest of Newark.
