Columbus teenager dies in car crash early Sunday morning

COLUMBUS, Indiana – A Columbus teenager died in a car crash at 1:19 a.m. Sunday after Columbus police were called to the scene of a reported car fire.

Bartholomew County Deputy Coroner Charlie Deweese pronounced Thomas Miguel DeLaCruz, 17, of Columbus, dead at the scene of the crash on County Road 400N near the “Tinkey Bridge,” east of U.S. 31. The Bartholomew County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene by Columbus Police, who responded to a vehicle fire at 1:19 a.m. When they arrived, they found a crashed vehicle and a body. Deweese said DeLaCruz died from severe traumatic injuries he sustained in the crash. Family has been notified. The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Police Department continue to investigate the crash.
