Haverstraw police arrest suspect in July shooting, pursue him to South Carolina

Yandie Martinez, 18, was arrested over the weekend in Piedmont, South Carolina, by members of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

According to police, Alvarado was involved in a car accident on the afternoon of July 1 at the intersection of West Street and Fairmount Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Alvarado suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at Nyack Hospital.

Investigators concluded that the shooting was not accidental, but was the result of an argument between Alvarado and Martinez.

Haverstraw police are expected to hold a press conference later in the day to further discuss the arrest.
