Priyanka Chaturvedi announces suspension of her business operations in RS because she alleges corruption in infrastructure projects in Maharashtra

Shiv Sena MP (UBT) Priyanka Chaturvedi issued a stay of work order in the Rajya Sabha on Monday to discuss the “rampant corruption in infrastructure projects in Maharashtra”.
“I hereby give notice under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) of my intention to move the following motion for adjournment of the business scheduled for July 29, 2024:” Chaturvedi in the notice.
“This House should suspend zero hour and the corresponding rules of Question Hour and other day-to-day business to discuss the rampant corruption in public infrastructure projects of the Maharashtra State Government. This corruption has resulted in poor quality structures like the Atal Setu bridge worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore which developed cracks within six months of its opening and a previously blacklisted company was awarded the contract for a road construction project worth Rs 11,566 crore under the second phase of the Rs 6,000 crore cement concrete road project in Mumbai. Therefore, it is requested that the Minister for Road Transport and Highways should seek a report from the State Government and provide details on the issue, which should be followed by a detailed and comprehensive discussion,” she said.
“I would also like to request that if the same matter cannot be admitted under Rule 267, that I may then be permitted to raise this matter of urgent national importance during zero hour on 29 July 2024,” she said.
In early June, the Maharashtra Congress attacked the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena government, alleging widespread corruption in the construction of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Seva Atal Setu in Navi Mumbai after cracks appeared in the approach road to the bridge.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) then announced that minor cracks had been discovered on the approach road between Atal Setu and Ulwe, which is not part of the bridge but a service road to the bridge.
MMRDA stated that the cracks were not due to any structural defects in the project and did not pose any threat to the structure of the bridge.
