the scorching summer heat returns to round off July and usher in August

MONDAY: After a volatile week of muggy air, frequent showers and storms, the pattern is finally breaking and we’re heading back to the summer that has already begun. Expect clearer skies with a few passing clouds, a chance of a thunderstorm, with highs in the 90s to 100s Fahrenheit. High humidity will make temperatures feel like 100s Fahrenheit or more. It will be mostly calm and clear through early Tuesday with lows in the 77s to 80s Fahrenheit.

ALARM DAY TUESDAY: As the upper ridge expands over us, the risk of heat will increase in the coming days. Highs will move into the mid 90s, with temperatures feeling between 108 and 112 degrees, leading to a DAY OF THE FIRST WEATHER WARNING. Be careful if you have to be outside in the heat for a long time. A few thunderstorms could develop by the afternoon – otherwise expect a mix of sun and clouds. Thunderstorms will quickly disappear after sunset, with lows of around 24 degrees.

A LONGER DURATION OF TIME: With the upper ridge anchored over the Southern United States, heat will once again dominate — especially during the second half of the work week. Highs will be in the 35-40s with high humidity. The high humidity will push the feels to 43 degrees by Friday. A weak backdoor will try to provide some relief with slightly reduced humidity and highs in the 35-40s that are near or slightly above average.
