Star Wars confirms that the number of Jedi killed during Order 66 is much higher than previously thought

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith There were many epic moments, most notably the execution of Order 66 and Leagues of Jedi.

The order famously saw Anakin Skywalker slaughter a group of innocent children and clone troopers turn against their Jedi commanders.

Many of us have asked how many Jedi were killed because of Palpatine’s orders.

In the final moments of the film, after the order is given, we see many Jedi meet their end, but this happens all over the galaxy.

Of course, we now know that many Jedi managed to escape and lived a life in secret or were dragged out of their exile for various reasons.

Unfortunately, many Jedi were killed and the exact numbers are not really known. It’s not like Palpatine had a target he could hit other than “everyone.”

To find out how many Jedi died, we have to go back to Star Wars Rebels Season one. In an episode called “The Path of the Jedi,” Kanan Jarrus gives us a rough estimate.

Jarrus tells his apprentice Ezra Bridger that there were about 10,000 Jedi Knights in total. We know that several high-ranking Jedi Knights escaped their fate, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, so we can assume that a little less than 10,000 were killed.

However, Jarrus only mentions Jedi Knights and not Padawans or Masters. Yoda, of course, escaped and held the rank of Master. We’ve seen Anakin kill younglings, and the killing of Padawans has been referenced in other Star Wars series.

This could put the number well over 10,000, but if we are conservative and take Jarrus at his word, we can safely say that at least 10,000 Jedi died as a result of Order 66.
