MONDAY

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms will hit our hometowns on Monday. This moisture load is expected to move from west to east throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

TUESDAY

The chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms will continue through Tuesday. Expect highs mostly around 27°C.

HOT START TO AUGUST

By the middle of the week it will be hot again, with temperatures rising to over 25 to 30 degrees. Isolated thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday and Friday. Limited chances of rain are expected on Thursday.

IMPROVEMENTS IN DROUGHT

The latest drought monitor, released Thursday, has shown improvements in parts of the WDBJ7 coverage area. Although we still have a long way to go, both severe drought and moderate drought areas are declining. The most significant declines have been in areas along/east of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Extreme drought has spread to much of the Shenandoah Valley, expanding 1% over the past week.
